Getting Started

WHAT TO EXPECT

One of the first steps parents often take after their child is diagnosed with autism is to pursue Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy. Interested families are encouraged to call our clinic during regular business hours or submit an inquiry on our CONTACT PAGE.

A client relations specialist will promptly be in touch to answer any questions you may have and will be happy to arrange a tour or intake for you and your family. Our goal is to make sure that each and every child has access to quality therapy, and we will do everything we can to make this initial process as worry-free as possible.

The first phone call to Golden State is an important one as it will help guide the family’s journey and the following is what you can expect along the way.

THE INTAKE PROCESS

During the intake conversation, a member of our Golden State team will ask questions about your child, gather background information, and generally start to understand your family’s needs.

This is a great opportunity for families to ask questions and make sure we are the right fit. The intake process is really about having a conversation. We appreciate when families ask us questions about our services or how we handle particular situations. During the intake the family will also provide relevant insurance documentation and diagnostic information.

THE INITIAL ABA ASSESSMENT

Once all preliminary discussions are completed and authorization is in place, the family schedules an initial assessment. During the assessment, we start to get to know the child and hear what the family is experiencing on a daily basis and ultimately work together to determine short-term and long-term goals.

The initial ABA assessment is different from the diagnosis in that this assessment allows your child’s Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to see what should be targeted during therapy and added to the child’s treatment plan. Once the assessment is completed and the BCBA submits the treatment plan to the insurance provider, and the insurance provider provides authorization for services, the family is ready to start ABA therapy.

Golden State understands that navigating next steps after a diagnosis can be difficult. We would love to have a conversation with you or someone you know to help provide additional direction.

WORKING WITH YOUR FAMILY'S INSURANCE PROVIDER

Each insurance provider can require different types of documentation. It’s important for Golden State Autism Centers to communicate with the insurance prior to beginning therapy to ensure that all required documentation is provided.

Our team is here to help families navigate the insurance process. We’ve worked with many families and many insurance networks over the years and are able to share our knowledge of that process.

Because Golden State is familiar with many insurance companies, we are able to help bridge the gap in communication to create a smooth transition into therapy.
